For the idea of the Maly Chair, I took inspiration from the Hmong New Year festival near Luang Prabang, Laos. This event, where families wear traditional costumes and young people play sandbag ball games, inspired me and influenced my design. I created a chair using local Lao plywood, Hmong-dyed textile threads, and simple screws for assembly. Its organic shape and bright colors reflect the festival’s energy. Designed for seating by the lush Mekong River’s edge, it enhances the already beautiful natural surroundings. I wanted to explore local materials, culture, and function in new ways, contributing my experience while learning from the locals.
